Dr. Tirupathi Chanapathi

Brief Details:

Dr. Chanapathi Tirupathi is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Sasi Institute of Technology and Engineering, Tadepalligudem. He obtained PhD degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, Pursued a Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Remote Sensing & GIS from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal and obtained a B.E in Civil Engineering at Sir C R Reddy College of Engineering, Andhra University. His expertise is hydro climatology, Hydro-Remote Sensing applications, Surface Water Hydrology, Large Scale Hydrological Modelling, Flood modelling, Watershed Management, RS & GIS applications in Water Resources, River Sustainability, and Applications of Advanced Soft Computing Techniques in Civil Engineering.

He worked on modelling and assessment of the combined impact of both climate and LULC changes on the hydrological process and river sustainability. He developed various unique and robust frameworks to evaluate river sustainability, water quality, and groundwater sustainability with his interdisciplinary approach and also published nine research articles in various High-quality journals and presented his work at several international and national conferences. He was awarded outstanding “Doctoral Research” in Civil Engineering for the year 2018 from IIT Hyderabad and Awarded the best PhD award in Water Resources and Allied Areas by MEIL” for the year 2020. Elected as “Treasurer of Indian Geo-technical Society (IGS) Tadepalligudem Chapter” for the year 2024 and also, appointed as “Board of Studies (BoS)” member for Sir C R Reddy College of Engineering (Autonomous), Eluru 2024.

Research: Impact of future climate and LULC changes on sustainability of the Krishna river basin, India.

The research presentation provides a brief overview of my PhD work, entitled “Impact of Future Climate and LULC Changes on the Sustainability of the Krishna River Basin, India”. It includes the main objective of the study along with the methodology adopted and the outcome of the study. Also, discuss my peer-reviewed journal articles published to date, highlighting key findings from each and their relevance. Overview of my prime research focus Large-scale hydrological modelling, investigating the regional climate change impacts, assessment of water sustainability, RS and GIS applications in water resources and Applications of advanced soft computing techniques in water resources. Also provides an overview of previous and current research work, and highlights the importance of my research in addressing water scarcity, extreme events, and sustainable water management of the region of interest. A brief outline of my future research plan for the next five years and research motivation. Also, discusses proposals submitted for funding and research proposals under preparation.

Teaching: Well Hydraulics

Understanding well hydraulics is essential for effective groundwater extraction, well design, and sustainable aquifer management. This presentation will cover the fundamental principles of groundwater flow to wells, static water levels, piezometric surface, pumping water level, well drawdown, area of influence, and aquifer response to pumping. Also, discuss well hydraulics and its role in groundwater development and the importance of understanding well performance for sustainable water management. Discuss the basic assumptions in Dupuit –Thiem theory, governing equation for radial flow in an aquifer, steady radial flow to a well in an unconfined aquifer. This session aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of well hydraulics and its role in sustainable water resource management. Finally, I will discuss the subjects I would like to teach at the postgraduate level, as well as the courses I would like to introduce to the existing curriculum at postgraduate levels at the Department of Water Resources Development and Management.
